Final Draft! Stormy Night adventure Island Milwaukee Adventure

Here it is, this is my final draft and final project final video for this particular project. I combined most of my previous silent clips and sounds with extra sounds and stills and this is how it turned out. I particularly enjoy the sounds it plays during the scrolling signs. Anyways Enjoy.

Drift with sound part deuce.

This is my second piece of work with sound, its the signs with the lights and the pretty colors and some crazy noises. These were mostly ambient noises I had that I distorted a lot in audacity. I really like the effects. There was a lot of pitch and speed changes made. Here it is! One last step closer to the final project.

Sound Drift part 1

Here is my soundless video completely redone with SOUND! Ah yes glorious technology means we shall only see talkies in this day and age. Anyways I think I'm going to use this and merge it with my light video for the final project but this is where I am at so far. Check it out.

Sketch 3- I like it.

This one definitely needs more work but I plan on covering that for the final part of this project. Here is my 3rd piece which has the electronic signs and neon lights I found on campus and on Capital Ave. I think I am going to make the signs move more and it should be pretty darn cool. Anyways check it out on here. Oh yeah, my quicktime videos seem to be pretty large, at least too large to easily load on pantherfile. What's the deal with that? I guess ill find out soon in class.

Sketch number 2, the photoplay.

This is my second test sketch silent drift film. This one is made entirely of a large portion of my still photographs mostly in order from the trip. This was a pain to make because my Adobe programs kept freezing up when I tried to load all these and size them correctly. I ended up using Pinnacle studio 10 to fix the time so each frame didn't last 5 seconds. Now each one is about a 5th of a second. Overall I think it is pretty neat how some of the photos mesh into each other but you can't really tell that this is part of a walk or not without being told huh. Check it out.

Rough Sketch Number 1

This is the first rough sketch I have done, overall I really liked the main footage used and it reminded me of an insect, thus the reasoning behind the flower and plant stills is related to perhaps a bumblebee. I'm excited to add sound to this later.

Image capturing strategies

When I decide to take photos with my digital camera I will keep these two strategies in mind.

1. I will generate still and moving imagery very frequently. If I have not taken a picture within 20 seconds I better take one now in the next second.

2. I will generate still and moving imagery multiple times of the same subject.

So overall I want to take photos very very frequently and I also want to take more than one of the same subject but it can be different angles etc. That way it will be more fun to see the results of a particular place or thing or whatever.

Ten Questions.

Here are my 10 questions I am going to ask myself, maybe tomorrow, about my drift to help in my strategy.

1. Where have I not explored in Milwaukee?
2. What might I find in these unexplored areas?
3. What should I focus on when taking pictures?
4. Am I going to relate my 2nd sound drift directly to my picture drift?
5. What ways can I position my mics?
6. Are there good places to see people in movement?
7. What kind of architecture might I find on my walks?
8. What direction am I heading?
9. How can I expand my photography?
10. Where will I hear neat things?

The assessment: Part 4

Question: Describe your favorite experience, situation, place, or recollection from your Drift. Be specific about what happened, how you felt, how you reacted, and why you think this particular experience affected you so much.

Answer: I'll describe my favorite place. I mentioned that the park was quite comfortable earlier but my favorite place during this drift walk happened to be Brady Street. I am a big fan of that street, it is my kind of street, there's always a lot of people walking around having a good time and it has an awesome atmosphere. Had I not had a firm mindset on the drift I probably would have taken a nice long break and sat down for lunch or something. Brady is colorful, the stores are actually painted interesting colors, they have unique signs, eccentric things. I also enjoy the food and I have family nearby. Overall favorite place. Plus its got The Dogg House.

Assess 3

Question: Describe three surprises or unexpected situations you encountered on your Drift and in the days that followed. The surprise could stem from your expectations that conflicted with "on the ground" realities, cultural or social issues of which you were previously unaware, feelings and reactions that you did not expect to have, appearances and soundings of things you did not expect, good or bad outcomes of "on the spot" decisions you had to make, or the discovery of "deeper" realities in the materials you brought home. (Again, skip anything technology-related!)

Answer:

Let me see. I was surprised how long it took to walk anywhere while I was trying to record things. Id been out for half an hour and had barely gone anywhere, that was pretty crazy I was like "Hey 4 hours is not going to be so bad". When I went back and listened to the recordings I felt like most of the turned out a lot better than I expected. When recording I was still kind of in the mindset that the headphones were not what I was hearing from and that I was just picking up everything from around me as normal so I was not exactly sure how the sounds would turn out, but overall I am happy with the outcome. Then with my last recording I was a little thrown off because it picked up many sounds that I do not recall hearing whatsoever when I was down by the fountain. I was pretty sure that the fountain sounded different so that kind of expanded my mind a bit in the moment. Next time I am over there I am going to walk up and see If I hear the same thing in my memory or not. Last weekend when I was there the fountains were off....

Drift Assesment too.

Question: Describe, with details, two situations during Drift 1 in which you felt unusually peaceful, at ease, or contemplative

Answer:

Alrighty. This I had to think about for a little while but I'm pretty sure that I found walking through this one park I had never been to before during the last quarter of my walk was quite relaxing. There was nice shade, the echo of cars was not as bad, I could hear music from Summerfest, and that really cheered me up because I was really looking forward to going to that and it was just starting up. The park was really nice too, I had never walked through it and I have to say it was pretty pleasant.

Another good part of the walk was when I reached the Art Museum. I was like "you know what, this is the end of this walk". I started walking towards the fountains, and thought "Hey this would be a great recording" and I was happy with it and there was lots of water, and the water was really refreshing to look at because it was very hot out and I was happy that I got to sit down and get one last good recording and take a break.

Drift Assesment Number #####1

Question: Describe two situations that aggravated, bothered, shocked or otherwise stressed you during Drift 1. (Please note that the situation CANNOT be technology-related.)

Answer: Let's see. During my first drift I was extremely bothered by mosquitoes when my drift made a wrong turn into the woods. At first it appeared quite alright from a distance, I've walked through the woods paths in Milwaukee before and they have been quite pleasant and I was also looking to get away from the traffic (more on that later) so the woods seemed nice. But nope, just moments after entering the woods I was bitten in my guess realistically at least 20 times. I was really excited too, hoping to get some good sounds but no the bugs got the best of me, so I ran through the woods.
So the second thing that pissed me off was the traffic, and by traffic I mean the sound of it. While trying to find some good noises all I could ever hear was traffic, inside my house I can hear it, it sucks. You try to capture a bird chirping or some people talking and you still hear the rumble or low echo of cars driving all day long, wee.

Drift 2 Map

This is a link to my drift 2 map. This route was used for photographs/clips and for sounds. I went north, right, north, left, Until I hit Capital ave where I started to make a loop so I could get a more lively neighborhood area. Just Click the picture on the left to see.
